Many Volkswagen models use a DSG dual-clutch transmission, and not every DSG is serviced the same way. Wet-clutch versions, common on more powerful Golf, Tiguan and Passat variants, have a scheduled fluid and filter change that helps protect the mechatronic unit and clutch packs. The 7-speed dry-clutch DSG used in many smaller Polo and Golf models doesn't have the same routine fluid change, so we follow the schedule for your car's gearbox.
TSI petrol engines differ too. The larger 2.0 TSI uses a timing chain, while many of the smaller TSI engines in recent Polo, Golf and T-Roc models use a timing belt with its own replacement interval. Either way, turbo and timing component life is closely tied to oil condition, so we use the correct specification oil and check your schedule for anything that's due.
If your Amarok or Tiguan spends time towing or off-road, our 4WD service and repairs cover the extra checks those vehicles need. Audi shares many of the same gearboxes and engines, so the same approach applies to our Audi service.
Is an independent garage a sensible choice for a Golf, Polo, Tiguan or Amarok? For scheduled maintenance it is. Volkswagen Australia puts most models on a 15,000 km or 12-month cycle, with Amaroks from model year 2021 and Crafters from model year 2018 on 20,000 km or 12 months, and whichever limit is reached first applies. Every visit to our Dandenong workshop follows that schedule for your model and goes into the logbook. Gearboxes and engines vary across the range, so we confirm what yours has: wet-clutch DSGs receive their scheduled fluid and filter change while the 7-speed dry-clutch unit has none, and several smaller TSI engines run a timing belt with its own replacement interval while the larger 2.0 TSI uses a chain. Pads, rotors, tyres and roadworthies are covered as well. Which Volkswagen interval fits your car?
For most Volkswagen models sold here, Volkswagen Australia sets a scheduled service every 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever occurs first. Two vehicles differ: the Amarok from model year 2021 onwards and the Crafter van from model year 2018 are on 20,000 km or 12 months.
Because the limit is whichever comes first, low kilometres don't push a service back. A Golf that only does short suburban trips is still due once a year has passed, while an Amarok covering long country distances can reach 20,000 km well before then.
Handy to have ready when you ring:
- the model and model year, which decide the interval for an Amarok or Crafter
- the date and odometer reading of the last service, from the logbook or the previous invoice
- any warning or service message showing on the dash

No, as long as your VW is serviced at its 15,000 km or 12-month interval (20,000 km for an Amarok from model year 2021 or a Crafter from model year 2018) using suitable parts. Australian Consumer Law doesn't tie your servicing to a Volkswagen dealer.
Do you handle Volkswagen-specific specialist diagnostics or dealer warranty work?
We stick to logbook servicing, DSG fluid changes, timing belt and chain checks, brakes, tyres and roadworthies. Faults that need complex specialist diagnostics, and claims under Volkswagen's warranty, are better handled by a Volkswagen dealer.
Do you service DSG transmissions?
