Signs to Watch For
When it's time for new tyres
Tread worn down to the indicators
Most tyres have small raised bars moulded into the grooves. Once the tread is level with them, the tyre is at the 1.5 mm legal minimum and due for replacement.
Cracks, cuts or bulges in the sidewall
Sidewall damage can't be safely repaired. A bulge means the tyre's internal structure has been damaged, so it should be replaced before the car does many more kilometres.
Uneven or patchy wear
Wear on one edge or in patches usually points to alignment, suspension or pressure problems. We flag the cause so a new set doesn't wear out the same way.
Vibration at speed
A shake through the steering wheel can come from wheel balance, a damaged tyre or worn suspension parts. We check which it is before replacing anything.
A tyre that keeps losing air

What tyre size does my car need?
It's printed on the sidewall of your current tyres, for example 205/55R16 91V, and on the tyre placard, usually inside the driver's door frame. The last part is the load index and speed rating, which we match when fitting new tyres.
Can a punctured tyre be repaired?
Often, if the hole is small, it's in the main tread area and the tyre hasn't been driven flat. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder, or a tyre that's been run flat, usually means replacement. We assess it and tell you which applies before doing the work.
Do I need to replace tyres in pairs?
Not always, but the two tyres on an axle should match in size, type and tread pattern so the car grips evenly. If the other tyre on that axle is well worn, replacing both is usually the better choice.
What is the legal minimum tread depth in Victoria?
1.5 mm. Wet-road grip drops well before that point, so it pays to replace tyres before they reach the limit. Tyres are also on the roadworthy certificate checklist, and worn tread is a common reason cars fail.
Do you check tyres during a service?
Yes. Tread depth, sidewall condition and pressures are part of every logbook service inspection, and uneven wear is flagged so you can plan ahead.
