Auto Electrical Repairs in Dandenong

Flat battery, a car that clicks but won't start, or a warning light that stays on? At our Dandenong workshop we test the battery, charging and starting systems and trace the fault before anything is replaced.

What We Work On

Auto electrical work at our workshop

Most electrical faults show up as something simple: the car won't start, the battery keeps dying or a light comes on. The cause can sit in a few different places, so we test before we replace. A new battery won't help if the alternator isn't charging it, and a new alternator won't help if a module is draining the battery overnight. Finding the real cause first is what stops you paying twice.

Battery testing and replacement

We test the battery's health and charge, check the terminals and cables, and fit a battery that matches your car's specification, including AGM batteries in cars with stop-start.

Alternators and charging

Charging output tested at the battery. A worn alternator, a slipping drive belt or a poor connection can all leave the battery undercharged.

Starter motors

A click, a slow crank or nothing at all when you turn the key or press start. We check the starter, its wiring and the battery supply to find which one has failed.

Electrical fault finding

Warning lights, blown fuses, lights or accessories that stop working and batteries that go flat overnight. We trace the circuit to the fault.

Hybrid and electric vehicles

We repair hybrid and electric cars, including the 12-volt battery and systems that still need to work before the car will switch on.

Sensors and cameras after repairs

After accident repairs we recalibrate driver-assist cameras and sensors (ADAS), so lane and collision warnings work as they should. See our smash repairs page.

Signs to Watch For

When to get the electrics checked

  • The engine cranks slowly on cold mornings, or only starts after a jump.
  • The battery or charging light comes on while you're driving.
  • Headlights dim at idle and brighten when you rev the engine.
  • You hear a single click, or nothing, when you try to start the car.
  • Electric windows, locks or the screen act up or stop working.
  • A fuse keeps blowing after it's replaced.

A warning light is the car telling you which system to look at. Engine, oil, brake and battery lights each mean something different, and some mean you should stop driving. If you're not sure, call us before you drive further.

How It Works

How we find an electrical fault

1. Listen to what the car is doing

When it happens, how often and what changed recently. Those details narrow down where to look.

2. Test the basics

Battery health, charging output and the starter supply are tested first, because they cause most no-start problems.

3. Trace the circuit

For warning lights and faults that come and go, we read stored fault codes and check the wiring and parts on that circuit.

4. Quote, repair and re-test

You get a free quote before the repair. After it, we test the system again before the car goes back to you.

Electrical faults often turn up next to other jobs. If your car is due for its scheduled service, we can do both in one visit with a logbook service, and our engine and transmission page covers faults that start in the engine itself.

Common Questions

Auto electrical questions, answered

Why does my car battery keep going flat?

A battery that keeps going flat is either worn out, not being charged properly by the alternator, or being drained by something that stays on after the car is locked. We test all three, so you don't pay for a new battery that goes flat again a week later.

Is it the battery or the alternator?

If the car starts after a jump and then dies again, or the battery light comes on while you drive, the charging system is the usual suspect. If the car starts fine after a jump and stays running, the battery itself is more likely. A charging test tells us which one it is.

Do you work on hybrid and electric cars?

Yes. We repair hybrid and electric vehicles at our Dandenong workshop, including their 12-volt systems, which can still go flat and stop the car from starting.

Are your auto electrical quotes free?

Yes, quotes are free. Some faults need diagnostic time before we can say what the repair is, and we'll tell you before that starts. Call 03 8774 5785 with your make, model and what the car is doing.

How do I book an auto electrical repair?

Use our online booking form or call 03 8774 5785. If the car won't start at all, call us and we can arrange towing to the workshop.
