Claiming with AAMI After a Car Accident
AAMI car insurance is issued by AAI Limited, part of the Suncorp group. Here's what AAMI's Comprehensive policy documents and claims pages say about repairs, hire cars and excess after a crash.

What AAMI's Comprehensive cover says
Lodging a claim
Call 13 22 44 (24/7), lodge online or use the AAMI app. AAMI says you can start a claim without every detail, and eligible claims can book repairs and a hire car online or in the app.
Choosing your repairer
AAMI's Comprehensive PDS heading is 'We choose the repairer': AAMI arranges the repair with one of its preferred repairers and manages it. We didn't find a choice-of-repairer option in the PDS we read. AAMI may instead pay you cash based on its preferred repairer's assessed quote.
Hire car if you weren't at fault
Included when the other driver was at fault and you give their name and address and the at-fault car's registration. AAMI arranges the hire car through its provider, and it runs until your car is repaired and returned or the claim is settled. Don't arrange your own hire car without AAMI's consent.
Excess when you're not at fault
Waived only if the other driver was entirely at fault and you give their name, their address and the at-fault car's registration. AAMI says it refunds an excess you've paid if those details are provided later.
Towing
One tow from the scene to AAMI's nearest repairer or another place AAMI nominates or agrees to, plus storage.
Repair guarantee
The AAMI Lifetime Repair Guarantee covers repairs AAMI authorised, for the life of the car. Cash settlements and repairs AAMI didn't authorise aren't covered.

Claiming against a AAMI customer
We didn't find an AAMI page for people claiming against an AAMI customer. If an AAMI driver hit you, you can claim through your own insurer, or contact AAMI with the driver's details and their claim number if you have it. We can handle a not-at-fault claim for you.

Because AAMI chooses the repairer on its Comprehensive policy, a claim on your own AAMI policy normally goes to one of its preferred repairers. Where we come in is when someone else caused the crash: a claim against the at-fault driver's insurer lets you pick the repairer, and we take care of the tow, the insurer and a replacement car once the paperwork is done and the car is with us. Quotes are free.
Worth knowing
- AAMI publishes a warning about companies that approach drivers after a crash and ask them to sign documents such as an 'Authority to Act' or a hire agreement on a tablet. Whoever you deal with, ask what you're signing and get a copy.
Common Questions
AAMI claim questions
Can I choose SS Automotive on my AAMI policy?
AAMI's Comprehensive PDS says AAMI chooses the repairer, so on your own AAMI policy it's AAMI's decision. If another driver was at fault, you can usually claim against their insurer instead and choose your own repairer.
Is SS Automotive an AAMI approved repairer?
No. AAMI picks its Approved Repair Partners itself. Drivers insured with AAMI can still come to us when the claim is against another driver's insurer, or when they pay privately.
