Claiming with QBE After a Car Accident
QBE car insurance is issued by QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited. QBE is one of the few insurers with a clear page for people claiming against its customers. Here's what its documents say.

What QBE's Comprehensive cover says
Lodging a claim
Call 133 723 (24/7), claim online, or go through your broker. Have your policy number, what happened, and the names and contact details of other drivers and witnesses.
Choosing your repairer
By default your car goes to a QBE Accredited Smash Repairer or another licensed repairer QBE chooses. With the paid Choice of Repairer option, you get a quote from a licensed repairer you choose, QBE assesses it and may get another quote, and it can reject an estimate.
Hire car if you weren't at fault
Included: QBE arranges and pays the reasonable daily cost of a suitable hire car until authorised repairs are finished, the repair cost is paid, or a total-loss claim is paid. Not provided while your car is safe to drive and not yet at the authorised repairer.
Excess when you're not at fault
No basic excess for a not-at-fault accident: your driver didn't cause or contribute to it, and where reasonably possible you give the full name and address of each person responsible and their car's registration.
Towing
Reasonable towing to the nearest repairer or safe place QBE agrees to, plus storage. With Choice of Repairer, QBE pays only what towing to its own repairer would have cost.
Repair guarantee
Repairs QBE authorises and manages are guaranteed as long as the car's owner doesn't change.

Claiming against a QBE customer
QBE has a dedicated third-party page. It says QBE can only progress your claim after its customer has lodged a claim and cover is confirmed; then a QBE claims officer contacts you. If you haven't heard, call 1300 383 854. You can also notify your own insurer, or ask us to handle the not-at-fault claim.

Without the Choice of Repairer option, QBE sends cars to its accredited repairers. With it, ask us for a quote for QBE to assess. Hit by someone else? You can claim against their insurer, choose your repairer, and we run that claim for you, replacement car included once the paperwork is finalised and the car is dropped off. Quotes are free.

- Nothing moves on a third-party claim against a QBE customer until that customer lodges their own claim with QBE, so get their details at the scene.

Can I choose SS Automotive on my QBE policy?
Only with QBE's paid Choice of Repairer option, and QBE assesses our quote first. If another driver was at fault, you can usually claim against their insurer instead and choose your own repairer.
