Claiming with RACV After a Car Accident

RACV is Victoria's motoring club, and RACV Motor Insurance is issued by Insurance Manufacturers of Australia, part of the IAG group. If you're claiming with RACV, or the driver who hit you is insured with RACV, here's what RACV's own documents say.

Not affiliated with RACV. SS Automotive is an independent repairer, not a RACV partner or approved repairer. Summary of RACV's published documents, read 3 November 2026; your own policy decides your cover.

If You're Insured With RACV

What RACV's Comprehensive cover says

Lodging a claim

Call 13 19 03, use your RACV online account, or the RACV app. RACV asks for your policy number, the other driver's name, home address and insurer, the vehicles' details, photos of the damage and any witness contacts.

Choosing your repairer

By default RACV arranges an RACV Partner Repairer. On Comprehensive cover you can use your own licensed repairer only if you added the paid Any Repairer option; Complete Care includes it. You give RACV a quote, RACV may inspect the car, then decides whether to authorise the repair or pay you the fair and reasonable cost.

Hire car if you weren't at fault

Included on Comprehensive when RACV is satisfied you weren't at fault and you give the name and residential address of the at-fault person. It runs until your car is repaired or a total-loss claim is paid, and RACV also pays up to $2,000 towards the hire car's excess or bond. Don't book your own hire car without RACV's written consent.

Excess when you're not at fault

No excess if RACV is satisfied the crash wasn't your fault and you give the at-fault person's name and residential address. Without those details, the excess applies.

Towing

RACV pays the reasonable cost of one tow from the crash to the closer of a repairer or place RACV recommends, or a safe place.

Repair guarantee

Repairs RACV authorises and pays for are guaranteed for as long as you own the car. The guarantee doesn't apply to repairs you authorised without consent or after a cash settlement.

If a RACV Driver Hit You

Claiming against a RACV customer

RACV's claims page says that if you aren't an RACV customer but the at-fault driver has RACV car insurance, you may get a hire car while your car is repaired and repairs through RACV's partner network. The number for this is 1300 109 303. You can also claim through your own insurer, or ask us to handle a not-at-fault claim.

Where We Fit

How SS Automotive can help

On your own RACV Comprehensive policy, RACV picks a Partner Repairer unless you have the Any Repairer option or Complete Care, so check with RACV before bringing the car to us. If another driver hit you, it's different: you can claim against their insurer and choose your repairer, and we run that claim end to end, including towing and a replacement car once the paperwork is finalised and your car is dropped off. Quotes are free.

Common Questions

RACV claim questions

Can I take my RACV claim to SS Automotive?

If you claim on your own RACV Comprehensive policy, only if your policy includes the Any Repairer option (Complete Care includes it), and RACV then decides whether to authorise our quote. If another driver was at fault, you can usually claim against their insurer instead and choose your repairer.

Is SS Automotive an RACV partner repairer?

No. RACV chooses its own partner repairers, and we're not one of them. RACV members still use us when they claim against an at-fault driver's insurer or pay for a repair themselves.
